Weekly Update - 12th - 16th March

We continued this week with our how we express ourselves unit. We have been working on a variety of projects designed to get us thinking about how nature inspires art. This week we experimented with the art forms acrostic poetry, music composition, dance, drama, aboriginal dot art, weaving, and plant art.

We explored a variety of nature inspired art and commented and reflected on the artists intention, connections, and possible inspiration behind their work.

We also began making our nature inspired stop motion movies. Here are Soyul and Vincent at about frame 100 of their movie.

We had two guest speakers on Friday. Iona came to talk to us about her 'Fire' inspired choreography for the fire dance in the jungle book. She told us about her inspiration and how she researched and experimented with ideas before creating the dance.

Ms Karyn also spoke to the grade about what elements from nature inspire her own paintings and murals. She talked about her personal connection to the nature she chooses to paint.

In math, we wrapped up our inquiry into multiplication and division. In grade 2, this is the first time the concepts behind multiplication and the foundations of division are explicitly taught. They explored arrays and a variety of methods to record and solve problems.
