Music - Graphic Notation

We did a learning rotation this week including drama, music, poetry and dance. We spent 40 minutes in a class with each grade 2 teacher experimenting with how art connects to nature.

In Ms Karyn's class...we looked at a way of recording sounds if we can't read music. We looked at examples of graphic notation (musical sounds represented through drawing and symbols).

First we looked at a nature related an example of graphic notation.

Then we wrote experimented with the instruments and drew what we how we wanted our music to sound on the whiteboard.

As the teacher moved the ruler through our musical score, we played our part...creating a piece of nature music. We reflected on how it sounded and gave our work a title. Here are our original music compositions.
