Weekly Update 15th -19th January

We had a busy week of learning.

As part of our literacy...we continue to focus on individual skills. Some students work on handwriting, spelling and punctuation awareness. Learners put their knowledge into practice as they learn to re-craft their own writing and make corrections where needed.

We are learning to be 'book shoppers' that choose 'just right' texts for independent reading. We love our daily reading time...when we build our reading stamina and fluency, and discuss our choices with peers and adults.

We continued to develop our understanding of our unit of inquiry. We worked together to develop our understanding of vocabulary in this unit. We created our own glossaries which we will refer to throughout the UOI. We reviewed the artifacts from our archeological dig...and expanded on our wonderings.

Our teacher assistants brought in some of their personal artifacts to share with us and discussed their personal and cultural significance. We moved around activities in our house groups. Students enjoyed exploring the items and guessing their uses.

In mathematics, we continued to work on our understanding of mapping and coordinates. We looked at the similarities and differences with this and shared some of our learning on seesaw. We have been using some of this knowledge to assist us with our coding sessions in Lab. Mr Matt is teaching us how to create our very own game by writing explicit instructions for computers called 'code'. Our 'Pong' games should be completed during the next two weeks.
