Weekly Update - 13th - 17th Nov

UNIT OF INQUIRY
We are now into the second week of our How We Organise Ourselves unit. We started the week by moving around four different rotations to learn about key changes in the Earth. We gathered information and made notes about how tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, erosion, and earthquakes occur...and how the shape the World we live in.

Later in class, we completed some visual responses to what we learned. We discussed how pattern, shape, line and colour could be used to  represent these ideas, and created these stunning artworks.

We explored the difficult concept of the difference between Erosion and Weathering. We used these online resources to aid our understanding and then sorted images and wrote notes to reflect our understanding.

We looked at the structure of the earth and made our own models from clay. We also displayed our unit wonderings and unpacked our central idea...trying to understand what our goal and purpose for the unit was.

Children often like to extend their learning beyond the classroom. This week Louie, Anders and Mizuki worked form home...making meaning from the unit and sharing what they had learned with their classmates.

LITERACY
During the week, we continued working on our individual reading goals. Students worked hard to target their specific learning needs...through a variety of fun activities. During writing, we wrote beautiful poetry about the Earths changes. We looked at diamante poems and senses poems and wrote and edited several great examples.
At the end of the week, we began working on a door display for book-week. We began our recycled collage...can you guess what we are making?

We also had the Book Week collaborative book come to our class. This is an ongoing story that began in early years and goes to each grade before it will be completed. We enjoyed brainstorming what would happen next...and crafted our ideas carefully before adding them to the book.
