Icecream

During this unit, students are asked to reflect on where their food comes from and make connections to the processes it has been through before reaching our table.
To get an indicator of their prior knowledge, students were given ice-cream and asked to complete a flow chart explaining where it came from. Many of the responses showed that students only have limited understanding of how food is grown, produced, packaged, marketed, and sold before it's consumed. Now we can focus on the best ways to acquire the knowledge we need.

We integrated language with this task in two ways, first by communicating the steps in a flow chart using diagrams and words, and secondly by expressing our feelings about ice-cream. We wrote taste poems and are currently finishing editing and publishing these in google drive. We will share these when we are done.
