Learning Update Feb 5th - Feb 16th

Happy Chinese New Year everybody! I hope you have a wonderful long weekend.

Over the past two weeks, learners have been engaged in research on their chosen artifacts. They used their understanding of key words to research, and have been making notes and writing their thoughts in their own words to show their understanding. During the process, students have re-visited the success criteria they wrote for this assessment. They were encouraged to ask themselves 'Have I clearly explained how my artifact has changed?' ' Did I explain how this artifact has changed peoples' lives?'

Students were exposed to a variety of methods to present their learning. We discussed the features of an effective presentation, and students began displaying their learning in innovative and creative ways. They reflected on the features of a successful display throughout the process and came up with some guidelines. They have been self checking:

  • Is the heading clear?
  • Have I answered the research questions?
  • Is my work easy to read?
  • Is it eye catching?
  • Have I been creative?
  • Do the colours work together?
  • Have I glued and cut straight?
The class are looking forward to sharing their learning with parents in the Knowledge Centre on Tuesday 20th of Feb. Families are invited to meet us at 7.45 in the Grade 2 piazza. Here are some sneak peeks at their work during the production stage.

We had some fascinating artifacts shared recently, and loved hearing our relative interviews from all around the World! The insights these have given students into what life was like in the past has been extremely valuable.

Students also took time to edit eachother's work. These pictures show learners re-crafting their peers writing for an authentic purpose. Mr Johnny's class shared their Wiki junior ideas on Angkor Wat, and this small group checked for structure, content, accuracy. They referred to our agreed success criteria...checking if the work would be easily read and interpreted by children. They made suggestions on the shared google doc.

International Day was a fabulous showcase of the diversity at ISPP. It was a fun day out!

Ms Alison has been into our class twice this week to introduce the 'Child Safe' lessons. We looked at what safe and unsafe situations are, and discussed ways we could respond or react when we feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

We ended the week with a fabulous display of talent in the Black Box Theatre. Children were risk takers and shared their diverse talents. These two brave students from our class took to the stage in a piano, dance and vocal rendition of Jingle Bells. It was super cute! Well done girls!
