Last week we had a provocation for our new unit of inquiry. The teachers brought in personal artifacts and grade 2 had to look at the evidence and made predictions about who they belonged to. Teachers then explained what significance the artifacts had, and how they related to their lives. Children will share their own personal artifacts next week as a follow up from this activity.
Literacy: In this unit of inquiry, one of our most valuable resources will be people. Much of the research we undertake will rely on information from guest speakers and field trips. In order to be successful in acquiring knowledge we need to be able to take effective notes. We have been practicing this throughout the week. We started with a session with Ms Rachel our librarian. Then we put our note-taking skills into practice and interviewed our grade 5 buddies about their interests and significant personal artifacts. In Reading, we have been exploring the features of non fiction texts and have been learning to take notes about our findings.
